Holten-Richmond Middle School is Hiring a Middle School Special Education Teacher Near Danvers, MA

Special Education Teacher

This Special Education teacher position is for the Holten Richmond Therapeutic Learning Center. The TLC is a special education program for students with a primary emotional disability. Students who qualify for the TLC require specialized support around managing a typical middle school day and schedule. The goal of this program is to provide students with multidisciplinary emotional, behavioral, social, and academic support through delivery of specialized instruction, therapeutic counseling, care coordination, and academic support. This is intentionally an inclusion-based program designed to be flexible and provide wrap-around support. The program is operated by a lead Special Education teacher who works closely with student support staff and administration. Program oversight is provided by the district’s Assistant Director of Student Services in partnership with the middle school administration.

Desirable candidates for this position will have experience working with adolescents who struggle with significant emotional disabilities and require support managing the demands of a rigorous middle school schedule that includes many transitions throughout the day.

  • Developing individualized schedules to support the diverse needs of students in the program
  • Overall case management of students
  • Push-in support as needed for students in their general education classes
  • Academic coordination and consultation with general education teachers
  • Collecting data on student academic, social, and emotional progress
  • Within mainstream or in pullout setting, provide teamed, small group or individualized instruction and/or academic support according to the general and specific goals outlined in students' individualized educational plans
  • Modify and adapt the curricula, materials, and physical environment to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Completes diagnostic academic testing (formal/informal) as required.
  • Participate in IEP Team meetings for students assigned or newly referred.
  • Provide close communication with parents and staff and prepare progress reports, annual review narratives and individual education plans.
  • Write specific IEP goals & objectives for students assigned or newly referred.
  • Design and implement behavior support plans for selected students.
  • Provide consultation services to school staff in terms of modifying curriculum, teaching style to meet the needs of special education students.
  • Attend department and staff meetings.
  • Write IEP progress reports on all students assigned.
  • Submit budget requests, inventory data, or required reports as requested by the Program Head.
  • Provide small group or individual instruction to special needs pupils as prescribed in their educational plans.
